LeBron James Censored From Jay-Z's 'Empire State Of Mind' On Cleveland Radio

By D.L. Chandler
The city of Cleveland certainly knows how to hold a grudge.
Following basketball superstar Lebron James' decision that he'd be "taking his talents" to South Beach and the Miami Heat, in what many Cavalier fans thought was a classless maneuver, a Cleveland radio station decided to take their gripe one step further.
On Jay-Z’s ubiquitous hit "Empire State Of Mind," Ohio's 96.5 KISS FM radio station took aim at the burly now-Miami Heat power forward by editing his name from Jigga's track. The line, "[if] Jeezy’s paying LeBron, I’m paying Dwayne Wade" is now missing the Akron, Ohio native’s famous first name. Host Joel "Java" Murphy curiously explained the rationale behind the decision with Cleveland sports blog WFNY by saying that Lebron’s name is damaging to Cleveland's ears.
"I was playing the song and realized that the word 'LeBron' is as offensive to some people as the ‘Seven Words You Can’t Say on the Radio,' " Java said. "So, I suggested to our programming department that we should treat the name 'LeBron' similarly."
"Lebron hate" has become a way of life in Cleveland but the hip-hop friendly hoops icon seemingly takes it all in stride.
In a recent matchup between 'Bron and his former Cavaliers, James and his new team, the Heat, responded in flawless fashion, routing Cleveland who were outgunned from the onset. And while the victory had to feel good, the loyal Ohio homeboy never took it personally.
"It was nothing personal for myself against the fans. It won't be, ever," James offered to USA Today after the game. "I understand their frustration."
